Sistem Informasi Geografi

Geographic Informatic System (GIS) saat ini dijadikan sebagai tool yang digunakan untuk pemetaan dan analisa terhadap banyak aktivitas diatas permukaan bumi. Teknologi GIS menggabungkan antara database operation, seperti query dan analisa statistik dengan peta. GIS memiliki power dalam membuat suatu peta, integrasi informasi, visualisasi skenario, memecahkan masalah yang kompleks, dan mengembangkan suatu solusi efektif terhadap objek geografi yang belum pernah ada sebelumnya.

MapInfo sebagai sebuah software GIS memiliki kemampuan dalam analisis data, menampilkan informasi geografis seperti berikut :

Tools untuk melakukan input dan transformasi data geografi.
Sistem Manajemen Basis Data (DBMS).
Tools yang mendukung query geografis, analisis dan visualisasi.
Graphical User Interface (GUI) untuk memudahkan akses pada tools geografi.
Disini akan dijelaskan bagaimana menampilkan thematic pada sebuah peta sehingga tampilan yang diperoleh dapat digunakan untuk analisa pada berbagai kebutuhan.

Segala bentuk aktivitas manusia pasti akan melibatkan dan memasukkan ukuran geofrafis. Mulai dari orang yang ingin membuka restoran, seorang ahli geologi yang akan mencari emas, seorang broker saham yang sedang mencari pasar untuk mendapatkan kesempatan investasi, atau seorang engineer telekomunikasi yang ingin meletakkan sental, BTS, atau jaringan kabel,….dimana, kapan, dan bagaimana?.

Tentunya kita harus mengetahui lingkungan disekitar kita, seperti komunitas alamiah suatu tempat, akan tetapi ketika kita menambah skala pandangan kita manjadi local, nasional, atau scope internasional maka kemampuan kita sangatlah kurang.

Geographi Information System sebenarnya adalah akronim dari :

Geografi
Istilah ini digunakan karena GIS dibangun secara mendasar dari ‘geografi’ atau ‘spasial’. Object ini mengarah kepada spesifikasi lokasi dalam suatu space. Objek bisa berupa fisik, budaya atau ekonomi alamiah. Penampakan tersebut ditampilkan pada suatu peta untuk memberikan gambaran yang representatif dari spasial suatu object sesuai dengan kenyataannya di bumi. Simbol, warna dan gaya garis digunakan untuk mewakili setiap spasial yang berbeda pada peta dua dimensional.

Saat ini teknologi komputer telah mampu membantu proses pemetaan melalui pengembangan dari automated cartography (pembuatan peta) dan Computer Aided Design (CAD).

Informasi

Informasi berasal dari pengolahan sejumlah data. Dalam GIS informasi memiliki volume terbesar. Setiap object geografi memiliki setting data tersendiri karena tidak sepenuhnya data yang ada dapat terwakili dalam peta. Jadi semua data harus di asosiasikan dengan objek spasial yang dapat membuat peta manjadi intelligent. Ketika data-data tersebut diasosiasikan dengan permukaan geografi yang representatif maka data-data tersebut mampu memberikan informasi dengan hanya meng-klik mouse pada objek. Namun ingat bahwa semua informasi adalah data tapi tidak semua data merupakan informasi.

System

Pengertian suatu sistem adalah kumpulan elemen-elemen yang saling berintegrasi dan berinterdependensi dalam lingkungan yang dinamis untuk mencapai tujuan tertentu. Istilah ini digunakan untuk mewakili pendekatan sistem yang digunakan dalam GIS,,,,,, dengan lingkungan yang compleks dan komponen yang terpisah-pisah maka sistem digunakan untuk mempermudah pemahaman dan penanganan yang terintegrasi. Teknologi komputer sangat dibutuhkan untuk pendekatan ini jadi hampir semua sistem informasinya bedasarkan pada komputer.

Jadi Geographi Information System (GIS) merupakan komputer yang berbasiskan pada sistem informasi yang digunakan untuk memberikan bentuk digital dan analisa terhadap permukaan geografi bumi.

Saat ini sudah banyak software-software yang dapat digunakan untuk membangun sebuah GIS salah satunya adalah MapInfo Prossional. MapInfo Professional dikembangkan oleh MapInfo Corp sejak tahun 1986 dan software ini menjadi salah satu standard software bagi pengembang karena harga relatif murah, tampilannya interaktif, user friendly dan dapat dicustomized dengan bahasa skrip MapBasic. Disini saya tidak menjelaskan mengenai Mapbasic tapi lebih kepada bagaimana cara melakukan registrasi peta yang diperoleh dari Citra Raster (Tipe Gambar) ke sistem koordinat.

REGISTRASI PETA

Citra Raster merupakan tipe gambar yang dikomputerisasi yang terdiri dari baris-baris titik (pixel). Ada beberapa format file citra raster yang dapat dibaca oleh MapInfo yaitu :

Perkembangan pemanfaatan data spasial dalam dekade belakangan ini meningkat dengan sangat drastis. Hal ini berkaitan dengan meluasnya pemanfaatan Sistem Informasi Geografis (SIG) dan perkembangan teknologi dalam memperoleh,erti merekam dan mengumpulan data yang bersifat keruangan (spasial). Teknologi tinggi sep Global Positioning System (GPS), remote sensing dan total station, telah membuat perekaman data spasial digital relatif lebih cepat dan mudah. Kemampuan penyimpanan yang semakin besar, kapasitas transfer data yang semakin meningkat, dan kecepatan proses data yang semakin cepat menjadikan data spasial merupakan bagian yang tidak terlepaskan dari perkembangan teknologi informasi.

Sistem informasi atau data yang berbasiskan keruangan pada saat ini merupakan salah satu elemen yang paling penting, karena berfungsi sebagai pondasi dalam melaksanakan dan mendukung berbagai macam aplikasi. Sebagai contoh dalam bidang lingkungan hidup, perencanaan pembangunan, tata ruang, manajemen transportasi, pengairan, sumber daya mineral, sosial dan ekonomi, dll. Oleh karena itu berbagai macam organisasi dan institusi menginginkan untuk mendapatkan data spasial yang konsisten, tersedia serta mempunyai aksesibilitas yang baik. Terutama yang berkaitan dengan perencanaan ke depan, data geografis masih dirasakan mahal dan membutuhkan waktu yang lama untuk memproduksinya (Rajabidfard, A. dan I.P. Williamson 2000). Beberapa tahun belakangan ini banyak negara yang telah melakukan investasi dalam kegiatan pembangunan dan pengembangan sistem informasi.
